3 MORE CONTESTS!

Views: 2554 | Date: Oct 03, 2004Author: Addict

Hey all! Now that we are getting some more people in here, I figured I would shake things up a bit.

Contest 1: Winner: darkstar! Click here to see how he won
Contest 2: Winner: Steves! - first person to post 3 articles (hotel reviews, gear reviews, etc).
Contest 3: Winner: mcm007! first person to get 100 posts)

I am now adding 3 more giveaways to start today. BUT, they are a secret. Users who contribute to the site will have the best chance of winning in these contests. If you have friends who might want to join, they may even help you to win one of the contests - but I cannot state how they would help. I can tell you that in some future contests, there could be a direct link to the people that you refer to the site. Therefore, the more you help to get here, the better chance you have of winning in some future contests.

Cozumel, Mexico - AKA Indy500

OVERALL RATING: 7
One word for Cozumel diving...Indy500! As we waited on the dock for our dive boat to pick us up, we were amazed at the number of boats. Big, small, all of them racing by headed for the dive sites along the western coast of Cozumel island. And when we got to the dive sites, you felt like an underwater tourist. In front of you, behind you, under you, and above you... divers! On some of our dives, I felt that we couldn't take the time to stop and enjoy the sites. You always had to push on.

Blue Angel Dive Shop - Cozumel, Mexico

Views: 5244 | Date: Oct 03, 2004Author: ScubaChick

OVERALL RATING: 7
After doing some research on the Internet prior to our trip, we decided to go diving with Blue Angel, versus the dive operation at our resort. The biggest factor in this decision was price. Blue Angel was cheaper and would still come pick us up on the Fiesta Americana dock. When making your arrangements, be sure to mention that you are looking for a package deal. When we went to pay our bill, we discovered that they had changed their quoted price. My advice... print any email communications you have with the company.

STAFF RATING: 8
Our first impression of the staff was not a positive one. We, along with a bus load of other guests, arrived to check-in. There was only one desk clerk to handle the entire bus. After close to an hour of waiting, (and we were 2nd in line) additional staff was brought in.

Ivan Updates: Cayman

Views: 2433 | Date: Sep 11, 2004Author: Addict

9/14 3pm EST - I can no longer access caymannetnews.com, and it looks like they may have had their server crash. Reports from other sources have reported that the East and west ends are connected again as the water has subsided some. There were several reports of the surge separating the island into 2 land masses.

The Cayman authorities have stated that they have no reports of casualties, and they have raised their report from 50% of structures with damage to 80% - other reports say as high as 95%.

Ivan has pounded the western banks of Cuba, but there are no reported deaths. Ivan was a Category 5.

Predictions are that Ivan will drop in strength as it moves across the gulf, but will still be devasting when it makes landfall in the U.S.
---------------------------------------------
9/13 11am EST - With some of the strictest building codes in the Caribbean, Cayman structures were still ripped apart with ease as Ivan battered the tiny islands.

Desriptions of "cars floating around like toys" and structures being torn apart like "matchsticks" are the reports coming from CaymanNetNews.com.

As Ivan travels northwest through the Yucatan it appears it will hit the western coast of Cuba on its way north to the Florida panhandle.

Mandatory evacuations for residents of Key West have been lifted.
----------------------------------------------

9/12 11am EST - Ivan is 30 miles SW of Grand Cayman, and expected to just brush the west coast.

Widespread flooding is reported all over the island. Power is out on all 3 islands. Waves are at 20 ft. Roofs have been torn off of well-built homes, and completely torn apart others. there is a report of a house at 8ft above sea level having ankle deep water inside.

Ivan is currently a category 4 with 155 MPH winds (156 MPH is a category 5).

Ok, I have been working on designing some stuff for giveaways here. As it turns out, the white t-shirts seem to really 'pop'. Darker colors don't show the logo as crisp.

Swatch Watch - 'Scuba Fun'

Views: 4826 | Date: Sep 09, 2004Author: Addict

It appears that Swatch is 'getting their feet wet' in the diving industry. They have come out with a new watch, depth rated to 40 meters, and will provide you with a depth guage, and dive profile recording of up to 90 minutes.

Once the watch is submerged to a depth of 1 meter, the hour hand becomes the depth meter, and the minute hand is dive time. The watch records your profile for playback after the dive.

Hurricane Ivan: Category 5

Views: 2347 | Date: Sep 09, 2004Author: Addict

Hurricane Ivan reached reached Category 5 strength early Thursday morning, and continued its heading northward. It is expected to make landfall southeast of Kingston, Jamaica sometime Friday. Some 700 British have evacuated the island to the Dominican Republic, and British Airways has stopped it's service to the island.

The hurricane has reported sustained winds of 160 MPH, and has taken at least 20 lives. Landfall in Florida is expected on Sunday to Monday, and the Keys are now under evacuation orders.

Yesterday, Ivan hit Grenada damaging 90% of homes and other structures, including the prison - which left prisoners to run free.

Hurricane Ivan Flattens Grenada

Reuters is reporting that hurricane Ivan has devistated Grenada in the lower caribbean, killing 20, and is heading west.

Hurricane Ivan is currently a category 4 hurricane, and just north of Bonaire. Experts predict that the storm will shift to to the north, and head towards western Cuba.

The Miami Herald is already reporting that Ivan could postpone the Dolphins vs Titans football game scheduled for Sunday.
