Tsunami and the U.S.

Views: 2690 | Date: Dec 29, 2004Author: Addict

As the death toll rises (67,000 at the time of this writing) and the international relief makes its way in, many have been disappointed at the U.S. efforts to assist the effected areas.

At last count, the U.S. has pledged $35 million to relief efforts, in what appears to be one of the largest natural disaters in world history.

Tsunami: Letter From Scuba Diving Couple

Views: 4684 | Date: Dec 28, 2004Author: Addict

This is a letter from a Colorado couple who was vacationing in Thailand, and on a dive when the Tsunami hit. A local Colorado news station did a story on the mother of the couple, who had to withstand over 2 days not knowing what had happened to her son and daughter-in-law.

With permission from Kirk and Sherry, we are reprinting the letter sharing their story.

To All,

Thanks for your concern. We were in the middle of the tsunami, and have been given a second life. On Christmas day, Kirk and I decided that we would go on a scuba diving trip on a liveboard boat. We were planning on doing day trips for diving, but the Similan Islands were 30 miles from shore and there were no day trips available. We were staying at Bangsak Resort right on the beach and it was beautiful. Because the scuba trip was so far away, we booked a four day trip and then we would return to the resort and spend New Year's on the beach. We left our luggage and passports with the resort and headed off to the Similan Islands.

The morning of the 26th we were on a dive and at about 30 feet deep when a strong current appeared. Sherry was about ten feet form me and I was suddenly spun around and was beginning to be sucked down. Sherry was being pulled up and we were able to get together just as the current became very strong and the sand created a white out. I would guess we were traveling about 20 mph at zero visibility. We kept an eye on our depth gage and were able to maintain our depth at about 30 feet. We surfaced after about ten minutes and found ourselves in very angry water that was boiling and whirl pooling. We were fairly close to shore, but decided to kick away so the boat could see us and could pick us up. After about ten minutes the boat found us and picked us up. We were diving with nine other people and were all spread out over about a mile. Everyone surfaced and everyone was okay. The captain said the water rose about 30 feet instantly. We spent the next two night floating at sea before it was safe for us to come ashore.

FREE Antivirus Software (1 full year)

Views: 1958 | Date: Nov 30, 2004Author: Addict

I am not a huge antivirus program fan (takes a while to scan your harddrive, conflicts with other installed programs, and you have to remember to update it all the time) but I have been using one antivirus program called Panda Antivirus.

Many say Panda is the best on the market. I have to say that I like it much more then Norton or McAfee. It updates automatically everyday with new virus definitions, among other things.

Anyhow, I can't provide you all support, but I can give you a link to get a FREE 1 Year trial. This is the full program, and free updates for a year...

SCAM Alert!

Views: 3263 | Date: Oct 24, 2004Author: Addict

Since I plan to get classified ads up for our members soon, I figured I would post this to get the word out.

The people that need to watch out for this scam are the 'sellers'.

Since I am selling my timeshare I have had 2 different offers come in from people attempting to scam me. Here is the basis on how the scam works:

A seller puts a product up for sale on the internet. The seller is contacted by a potential buyer. The buyer shows interest and agrees to buy the product and send a cashiers check to complete the purchase. The buyer contacts the seller stating that he accidentally sent too much money for the sale, and asks the seller to deposit the cashiers check in their bank account, and send the difference back to them (minus a small amount that the seller can keep for the trouble).

"Scuba diving weights are constructed of lead a highly toxic persistent polluter. Lead pollution is most harmful to children - it can lead to brain damage as well as other significant health problems."

"In the light of the foregoing, it does not seem appropriate that Vrygrond and Lavender Hill's school children, should have their mental development affected, so that American scuba divers might better control their buoyancy." - IOL, 9-30-2004 -
