Should we be scared?

After watching a story on 20/20 last night about the couple left on the Great Barrier Reef, it brought back my curiosity of the likelihood of this actually happening. Although intrigued, I have even consiously avoided seeing the movie that is loosely based on this couple, "Open Water". Being a relatively new diver, and being land-locked in Colorado, I figured that incidents of being left behind by a dive boat may be more publicized to big diving destinations like Florida, but in Colorado, do we ever hear of it?

After visiting DAN online, my fears have subsided, slightly. They list 4 "Notable Strandings" since 1994. Not bad, considering the sheer amount of dive trips 'daily' around the world. I mean, I could have died in an accident on the way to work today too.

Being aware of these incidents can make each of us more responsible. And no matter how stories of this nature effect the weary, it serves to protect us all.

Note to self: Add CD to BC pocket.

some good advice would be stay away from the large boats if you can and if you can't try to make freinds with some people on the trip out to the site. They may question where you are if the boat try's to leave without you.
