STAFF RATING: 8
Our first impression of the staff was not a positive one. We, along with a bus load of other guests, arrived to check-in. There was only one desk clerk to handle the entire bus. After close to an hour of waiting, (and we were 2nd in line) additional staff was brought in.
Other than the front desk, the staff at Fiesta Americana was very friendly, helpful and timely. They were eager to answer your questions and point you in the right direction. The wait staff was amazing. After eating out in the U.S., I wasn't used to having my water glass filled at all times and dirty dishes removed from the table in a timely manner.
ROOM RATING: 5
Our room was a standard hotel room. It included the following: AC, 2 queen-sized beds, table & chairs, dresser, TV, armchair, tub/shower, safe, closet, and additional storage area just inside the door.
Even with standard features, the comfort of the room was sub-standard. The TV was not functioning properly and received only a few channels. The beds were uncomfortable and didn't lend themselves to a good night's rest.
The air conditioner also served as a great water cooler. Even though we were told the water was safe to drink, we choose not to take our chances. We picked up FREE liters of water from the bar. We kept extras on hand, taking them with us on the dive boat.
After a couple of days at the resort, we noticed an unpleasant smell. After contacting the front desk, it was discovered to be paint fumes from maintenance work in the next room. Once they actually opened up the unit, it managed to air out and the smell was gone.
FOOD RATING: 8
The Fiesta American offered buffet-style dinning for all meals. As with most buffets, some dishes were better than others. There was an ample selection at each meal and the ingredients were fresh. For breakfast and lunch you travel across the street to the "Reef Restaurant," a beachside cafe. Breakfast included various pastries and custom-made omelets. Lunch included American favorites such as hamburgers, along with local fish dishes. Each evening featured a themed buffet. During our stay, the buffet typically opened 15-20 minutes before the scheduled time. This was nice...we were able to get in before the crowds. The guacamole on the "Mexican" night was the best I've ever had.
As a part of our "All Inclusive" package, we were able to enjoy an evening meal at the "Miramar Restaurant." The atmosphere was formal, with a mariachi band serenading guests. The filet mignon was well prepared. There was a noticeable difference between the buffet and restaurant food quality.
OVERALL RATING: 7
Overall, we were pleased with our Fiesta American experience. By booking the All Inclusive Package through Apple Vacations, we felt the $1000 per person cost (included R/T Airfare from Denver, Ground Transfers, and Hotel) was a good value. Because of the value, we would travel again to the Fiesta Americana Cozumel Dive Resort at a future date.
